Karmichael Hunt to defect to AFL
International Rugby League star Karmichael Hunt has signed a three year deal with the newly formed Gold Coast Football Club (GCFC) and will play in the club's first season in 2011.
GCFC has managed to entice the 22-year-old player to switch codes to play in the AFL and help promote the game in Queensland. After months of consideration the Broncos fullback said he is ready to take on the challenge.
"For me this is about the challenge of playing AFL at the highest level.
"The Gold Coast Football Club has given me a great opportunity to be part of its journey to AFL in 2011," he said. CEO Travis Auld said the recruitment of Hunt is a great coup for Queensland, the Gold Coast community and the football club. Hunt is expected to play Rugby Union and return to the coast to begin training in May next year.
